Did God Actually Say...?

Did God Actually Say...?

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

This voice is so common. We have all heard it whispered into our ears, especially those who have chosen to give their heart to Jesus and who’s trust is in the Lord. Those words are, “Did God actually say…” In John 8:44 Jesus describes the devil as ‘the father of lies.’ The devil's lying goes all the way back to the beginning when God placed man and woman in the perfection of the garden. ⠀
⠀
We have all listened to the voice of the one who spoke lies and temptation in the garden that day. We have all looked and gazed upon the tree even while we were told of its destructive power. The devil's words masked the tree as beautiful and something to be desired. Even after we went against God's warning, He never left us. There was a stronger voice in the garden that day. That voice was the One who called out to his children, “where are you?” as we hide and ran from him. ⠀
⠀
God's mercy is so deep and the devil's words are but lies. When the devil begins to speak, we can say in confidence as Job did, “I know my Redeemer lives!” We can pray and proclaim the promises of God back to Lord. Powerful promises like Isaiah 41:10, “…I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” How merciful and lovely it is that our Creator promises deliverance for all who call upon the name of the Lord.
