“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
One thing my wife and I talk about is the concept of ‘raising the sails’ in our walk with Jesus. Here’s what I mean. My dad took up sailing when he was in school at the United States Naval Academy. Because of his love for sailing he taught me and my siblings to sail as well. Two of the biggest things I learned during my time out on the water was that 1. you can’t sail if there’s no wind and 2. no matter what course you charted for yourself that day, if the wind direction changes, you can forget about it.⠀
In John chapter 3, Jesus is talking with a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Their conversation was centered around the new life God was going to give the world. Jesus was explaining that when we are reborn into this new life we receive the Spirit of God, and He directs our lives. We can not control what He is doing, but we are told to be prepared for him to lead us to wherever He calls. His calling is love and He is in the business of reconciling all things to himself (Col. 1:20). His love knows no end and He is in pursuit of every heart. So when the wind of God blows, ‘raise the sails’ and be ready for the movement of God and He will guide you into life and life abundant.
