“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Every day and every breathe we take is another opportunity to love. 1 Corinthians chapter 13 is a special collection of words on what love means and what it means to love. The chapter makes it very clear that love is not a check list and love is not a list of rules to follow. Love is something God puts into our hearts. When we love we take part in the very nature of God, because God is love (1 John 4:7-21). What’s incredible about these verses is that it’s saying if we accomplish these amazing things absent from love it means absolutely nothing, but if we do something as simple as take the trash out for our families with love in our heart, it means absolutely everything. Nothing embodies love more than the life, death and resurrecting of King Jesus. All of life flows out of him and because of him we know the full embodiment of love.
